James Baldwin

We explore the ideas and legacy of writer and anti-Black racism activist James Baldwin. The conversations will examine Baldwin’s influence on contemporary art and consider the extent to which his thinking continues to resonate within queer community strategies and in the ongoing struggle against racism in the Netherlands today.

Symposium: James Baldwin and the Voices of Resistance

With panel discussions by curator Özkan Gölpinar, filmmaker and editor-in-chief HUMAN Ahmet Polat, anti-racism activist and co-founder of Black Pride NL Naomie Pieter, anthropologist and artist Dr. Edward Akintola Hubbard, professor Black Studies and Critical Race Studies Dr. Nawal Mustafa, artist Isaiah Lopaz, artist Sai Rodrigues, artist Diana Blok, a visual contribution by artist Beldan Sezen and moderated by writer Chris Keulemans. There will be a musical performance by Orville Breeveld, and Stichting Sisa Events provides a warm meal and stories from Maroon culture.
