The title Robe bleu, fond rouge — taken from a painting by Henri Matisse — refers to the essence of painting: color, form, and paint on canvas. At the same time, it points to what cannot be captured in words. The visual takes center stage. Curated by Nies Vooijs, Annemieke Louwerens, and Pietertje van Splunter, every two to three years, the exhibition offers a current perspective on painting from The Hague.
