Boris Deben, Frans van Hoek, Katerina Varella, Sasja Houba, Shana de Villiers.

Festive opening on Saturday, July 18 at 4:00 PM. We would like to invite you to attend.

What makes us who we are? The place where we grow up, the history we carry with us, the people, the things, and nature. In So far, so good, the fourth edition of Bobbi’s Summer School, 38CC provides space for five young artists who explore identity from different perspectives.

Frans van Hoek approaches serious subjects with a playful gaze. He connects past, present, and future into surprising concepts such as football shirts for vanished civilizations and world maps drawn by children. Katerina Varella starts from her family history and the complex history of Cyprus. Her paintings, sometimes displayed as sculptures in space, explore themes such as memories, loss, political division, and cultural heritage. Shana de Villiers creates colorful textile worlds with monstrous characters such as princess dresses, shimmering snakes, and hairy sofas. They invite us to approach the unknown not with fear, but with curiosity. Sasja Houba finds beauty in unnoticed objects such as a garden ornament, a gable stone, or a plastic vase from a thrift store. She translates them into mysterious ceramic sculptures in which personal stories, culture, and nature converge. Boris Deben investigates the relationship between humans and their environment. With his comic-style drawings, animations, and kinetic sculptures, he gives nature a voice and brings everyday objects to life. Together, the artists show us how we can look at the world with childlike curiosity and a critical eye: So far, so good.

Bobbi’s Summer School is an initiative by artist and curator Bobbi Cleij. The artists were selected via an Open Call for recently graduated talent and will provide free workshops for children at 38CC during the exhibition.
